Abigroup commences work on the Academic and Research Facility at Queensland Children's Hospital
14 February 2013
Abigroup has recently commenced work on the new Academic and Research Facility at the Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) after securing the project in December last year.
The $71 million project will involve the construction of a new ten level building providing research facilities and the QCH pathology department.
Opening alongside the new Queensland Children’s Hospital in 2014, the facility will position Queensland at the forefront of children’s health research.
Queensland General Manager, Mick O’Dwyer said, “Securing this project is testament to the ability and dedication of Abigroup’s resources to undertake work in this sector.
“The award of the Academic and Research Facility further strengthens Abigroup’s capability in health infrastructure,” said Mr O’Dwyer.
The QCH Academic and Research Facility will contain:
- research space (wet and dry laboratories);
- pathology services;
- university tenancies;
- retail space;
- loading bay and link to adjacent loading dock;
- staff and service tunnel link to the QCH; and
- basement car park.
The project is a joint collaboration between Queensland Health and its academic partners, QUT and the University of Queensland.
