Abigroup North Queensland opens its new office in style

11 June 2010

Over 120 guests including civic and business leaders celebrated the opening of Abigroup North Queensland’s new corporate offices in the heart of Townsville’s transforming CBD on 3 June.

North Queensland Manager Gary Inness summed up Abigroup’s long history in the north when, during his welcoming address he said “Abigroup has now had a strong presence in Townsville for more than 16 years. During this time we have constructed close to 100 projects throughout North Queensland and developed a strong local team and a reputation for getting the job done. North Queensland has provided our group with wonderful opportunities to carry out both engineering and building projects.”

Gary went on to say “The new office boasts a modern fitout together with state of the art communications including video conferencing and training facilities and will provide a platform from which we can further expand the North Queensland business.”

The evening’s special guests included the State Member for Thuringowa and Minister for Main Roads, the Honourable Craig Wallace and Deputy Mayor of Townsville David Crisafulli as well as other Townsville City Council Councillors and representatives from key industry bodies Townsville Enterprise and the Townsville Chamber of Commerce.

Abigroup’s National Operations Director John Kirkwood and General Manager Northern Region Steve Abson made the trip north to join in the celebrations, both using their time at the podium to reconfirm the company’s commitment to the region and taking the opportunity to “press the flesh” with the North Queensland division’s key clients and industry partners.

A plaque commemorating the event was unveiled by Minister Wallace. In his address Minister Wallace applauded Abigroup for its ongoing commitment to the region particularly the commitment to the Health and Safety of workers, citing the successful delivery of the Practical Induction Training (PIT) facility as an ongoing example of this.

Minister Wallace also offered his congratulations on recent project successes at the Townsville Port Access Road together with the recent awards of the Douglas Arterial Road Duplication (DAD) and the Cardwell Range Upgrade.
