Sod turning ceremony takes place on the Reid Alexander Interchange project
02 June 2010
A ground-breaking ceremony for the Reid Highway, Alexander Drive Interchange project in Perth took place on Sunday 23 May when the first sod was turned by WA State Transport Minister Simon O'Brien and Federal Foreign Affairs Minister and local MP Stephen Smith.
The ceremony marked the start of the $48 million design and construct project: which involves the construction of twin road bridges over Alexander Drive and associated works.
The intersection is a well-known accident black spot and during peak periods there is significant traffic congestion.
The new overpass, due to be completed by April 2011, will significantly improve road safety as well as reducing congestion.
The ceremony was attended by Abigroup Western Region Engineering Manager Mark Davidovic and Project Manager Craig Irvine, along with Abigroup and Main Roads WA project staff.
Mark said, “The Reid Alexander Interchange project is a critical initiative undertaken by Main Roads to improve road user safety and we’re proud to be associated with the construction of such an important project.”
