Abigroup helps Cyclone Yasi recovery effort

06 May 2011

Abigroup has helped with the recovery effort following Cyclone Yasi in North Queensland by providing three vehicles to the Girringun Aboriginal Corporation.

The vehicles were donated by the Cardwell Range Alliance which is currently building a 4km road realignment to the Bruce Highway over the Cardwell Range.

Alliance Manager Jon Bell said, “We were delighted to be able to help the Girringun Aboriginal Corporation.

“The corporation had received funding for labour supply to work in the three affected areas of Ingham, Cardwell and Tully for a five week period but had no way of transporting workers around.

“This is where we were able to help out by providing three troop carriers which could transport up to 30 workers around the affected areas.

A spokesperson for the Girringun Aboriginal Corporation said, “We would like to thank the Commonwealth Government, Abigroup and the community members affected by Cyclone Yasi for their help and support in this project.”
