Abigroup to build major new WesTrac facility in Tomago

25 February 2011

Abigroup has secured a major contract with Northbank Enterprise Hub Pty Ltd to build a $100 million plus purpose built facility for WesTrac, over a 23 hectare site located at Tomago (Newcastle).

This major development will be the NSW/ACT Operational Headquarters for WesTrac, and play an integral role in the company’s future. The facility will consist of 12 major buildings interconnected with a circulation spine, security buildings and extensive hardstand areas.

Upon completion the facility will include the WesTrac Institute that will provide training to the company’s apprentices and staff. The facility will also cater for WesTrac’s full operations including office/administration, sales, warehousing, assembly, servicing and maintenance and workshops.

Newcastle MP Sharon Grierson toured the site of the new facility on 16 February and was impressed with the proposed development and the benefits it will bring to the economy and community.

“This major project will provide a significant boost to the Hunter region,” she said. “It’ll create a number of skilled local jobs and I’m looking forward to seeing the new facility up and running.”

Abigroup’s Managing Director David Jurd added, “Abigroup is delighted to have secured this major project which will provide WesTrac with a state of the art facility to run their NSW/ACT operations from.

“Abigroup has a long history of running successful projects in the Hunter region and is currently involved in building the western section of the Hunter Expressway and the Hunter Water Treatment Program Alliance. Last year we opened our new Hunter region office in Beresfield.”

Major construction work will start shortly on the new facility which is due for completion in April 2012.
