Abigroup to support Queensland flood relief appeal
17 January 2011
Abigroup is supporting the Queensland Government’s Flood Relief Appeal with an initial donation of $50,000 and then by matching dollar for dollar, all employee donations.
Every Abigroup project site and office is being encouraged to hold a fundraising event during the next few weeks to help raise money for the Appeal with all money raised being matched by the company.
Abigroup’s Managing Director David Jurd said, “We look on in disbelief at the devastation wrought by the flood event in Queensland.
“Many of our employees, their families and friends live in the areas that have been affected by the flood, and our thoughts are with them and all those who have a tough time ahead of them.”
Abigroup’s Queensland head office on Brisbane’s South Bank narrowly escaped being inundated during the Brisbane Flood on Thursday 13 January.
Water from the Brisbane River peaked around 200mm below the threshold of the office’s front door. However the underground carpark and lift were both flooded and the office is currently closed.
Abigroup’s Queensland projects currently affected by the floods include:
- Ipswich Motorway Upgrade: Dinmore to Goodna (Origin Alliance);
- Northern Pipeline Interconnector – Stage 2 (Northern Network Alliance);
- Brisbane City Hall Restoration; and
- Princess Alexandra Hospital.
