Award winning Abigroup
30 July 2010
Abigroup has picked up no less than seven building awards in as many weeks.
Three of the awards are for Professional Excellence in Building from the New South Wales Australian Institute of Building (AIB).
Greg Sweeny won in the Commercial Construction $100 million Plus category for his role in the Mater Hospital development in Newcastle while Stephen Surjan was Highly Commended in both the Residential Construction $100 million Plus category and the Commercial Construction $100 million Plus category for his role as Construction Manager on The Village project in Balgowlah on Sydney’s northern beaches.
These awards come after Abigroup’s Anthony Phillips won a Professional Excellence Award from the Victorian AIB for the Camberwell Civic Precinct Renewal Stage 1 project for his role as Project Manager.
The AIB Professional Excellence Awards recognise the performance of individuals during the delivery of a project rather than focusing on the project outcome or completed structure.
Project Director of the Mater Hospital and now Project Director on Abigroup’s Building the Education Revolution program in Sydney, Greg Sweeny said that while it was an honour to accept the award the credit must go to the entire project team.
“Large, complex and sophisticated projects like the Mater Hospital Newcastle development really require a team of experts working closely together to deliver a shared goal,” Greg said.
Another three awards were picked up by Abigroup’s South East Queensland Building Division at the Regional Queensland Master Builders, Housing and Construction awards night on 9 July.
The winning projects were:
- Ipswich Courthouse, Watch House and Police Station in the Sporting & Community Services Facilities over $50 million category;
- Queensland Performance Arts Complex Refurbishment in the Refurbishment/Renovation over $15 million category; and
- Northern Busway Cycle Centre in the Sporting & Community Services facilities $4 million - $15 million category.
Accepting the awards for Abigroup were David Vicenzino, Operations Manager Queensland Building, for the Northern Busway Cycle Centre; Steven Hay, Project Manager for the Ipswich Courthouse, Watch House and Police Station; and Rod Boxall, Project Manager for the Queensland Performance Arts Complex Refurbishment.
David said, “These awards demonstrate the commitment from our people and what happens when our project teams come together with a common goal of providing value for money, certainty and high performance for the client and the local community.”
